Bringing the Census to Life Through Handcrafted Design

Client: Office for National Statistics
Project: Census Awareness Campaign

We partnered with the Office for National Statistics to create a compelling public awareness campaign for the latest National Census. Our goal was to encourage participation through a visually engaging and accessible design approach.

We developed a paper-cut illustration style to represent key aspects of modern life—housing, work, technology, and community. These handcrafted icons were integrated into hand-cut typography, giving the campaign a warm, tactile quality that stood out across various media.

Our designs were applied across:

  • Posters & print ads in public spaces and transport hubs

  • Digital & social media assets

  • Information booklets & leaflets

  • Animated content for web and video

A standout element was a specially designed tote bag, distributed to tens of thousands nationwide, ensuring ongoing visibility and engagement.

By combining traditional craftsmanship with modern communication strategies, we helped ONS deliver a memorable, inclusive campaign that reinforced the census as a vital community-driven initiative.
